In the Quad Cities, ORA Orthopedics’ board-certified, fellowship trained surgeons utilize the latest breakthroughs in total knee replacement surgery to deliver optimal results to our patients without the long incisions and extended recovery periods that were once associated with total joint surgery. Thanks to our minimally invasive, muscle-sparing approach to total knee replacement, we are able to perform total knee replacement surgery as an outpatient procedure.
The knee is the largest joint in the body, as well as one of the most complex. It is susceptible to a variety of injuries and degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis that can eventually lead to the need for joint replacement. In this procedure – which may be more correctly described as joint resurfacing – only the damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with metal or plastic prosthesis (implants) to restore fluid joint movement and improve the patient’s quality of life.
Total knee replacement surgery has traditionally been an inpatient procedure. With the use of minimally invasive techniques, modern pain protocols, and rapid rehabilitation, our surgeons can perform total knee replacement as an outpatient procedure. Patients receive one-on-one individualized nursing care and physical therapy while undergoing outpatient total knee replacement at ORA’s Crow Valley Surgery Center. Immediately following surgery, you recover in a spacious, private room and order dinner from a local restaurant. Patients return home within the first 24 hours. This allows you to recover in the comfort of your own home, avoiding a lengthy hospital stay. Most patients return to normal activities quicker and with less pain than with traditional knee replacement surgery.
ORA Orthopedics takes a comprehensive approach to treatment that focuses on improving knee pain with a regimen of conservative therapies, including injections, physical therapy, and bracing. However, total knee replacement may be a viable treatment option for adults with severe symptoms that do not respond to conservative approaches. If you find yourself with disruptive knee pain, consult with one of our physicians about your options. Our patients are given one-on-one attention throughout the entire care process, ensuring each receives a treatment plan that is tailored to his or her unique needs.
