Name: Shauna Clark
Hometown: Stronghurst, IL
Years at ORA: 7 years
ORA Job Title: MRI Technologist
Branch or Level of Service: Army E4 Specialist
Why did you join the military?
I joined the military right after high school because I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to go to school for something in the medical field eventually, but was undecided at the time. I have a lot of family with prior military service and always thought maybe I would do that, too.
How did you serve?
I spent 6 years as a CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive) specialist and spent most of that time in a CERFP (certified emergency response force package) unit that focused on hazmat response, search and rescue operations, and confined space/rope/swift water rescue.
I never had the opportunity to deploy overseas or stateside. But I did get to travel all over the country and train with some of the best search and rescue teams both military and civilian.
What stands out when you think about your time spent in the military?
During my time in the military, I was able to attend ASIST training, which is part of the military’s suicide prevention/intervention program. I learned so much on how to better help service members with mental health issues, becoming a first responder in situations with immediate risk of suicide. This is something I’ve continued to be a part of as a veteran.
How did your military service impact the work you do at ORA?
Serving in the military provides an incredible amount of experience that can be transferred to any civilian work environment. The military has made me a very efficient person. Attention to detail is so very important in the military as well as the medical field.
What advice do you have for others who are interested in serving their country?
I have immense pride for my service in our military, it comes with a lot of sacrifice, but something I would never regret. If you are thinking about joining, do it! You’ll meet strangers that will become family. I’ve been out for nearly 7 years and still speak with some people I served with frequently.
What message would you share with other veterans this Veteran’s Day?
Thank you for your dedication to our country. Being a veteran is an accomplishment that took hard work and sacrifice, and that is very appreciated!
We are incredibly grateful to all the courageous individuals who endured personal sacrifices to serve this country—especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy.
At ORA, we honor those brave individuals and commend our very own ORA employees who have served or are currently serving in the military. Thank you for your outstanding service, compassionate care, and extraordinary dedication to our nation!
