Favorite quote: “Find joy in the journey.” — Thomas S. Monson

Favorite book or movie and why: The Count of Monte Cristo. I’ve always loved the story of Edmond Dantès and his remarkable resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable circumstances. It’s a story of perseverance and transformation, and a reminder that even through our greatest challenges, we can grow and come to recognize what matters most in life.

How do you like to spend your weekends? Spending time with my family. We love being outdoors—on the water, riding bikes, playing tennis, exploring new places, or just finding our next adventure together.

What are your interests/activities outside of work? I have more hobbies than I have time for! I love motorcycle racing, tennis, mountain biking, skiing, boating, hiking, camping, playing guitar, and fishing with my sons. I’ve always enjoyed being active and trying new things.

Name one person you would like to meet and why? Jesus Christ. I would love the opportunity to sit with Him, learn from Him personally, and better understand how we can live our lives in service to others.

Where would you most like to travel but have never been? London to attend Wimbledon. I love tennis, and seeing a match on Centre Court has always been a bucket-list experience.

What made you decide to become a doctor and specifically an orthopedic surgeon?

I decided to become a doctor after spending two years as a missionary in Brazil. That experience taught me how much happiness and fulfillment I found in serving others, and I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Orthopedics felt like a natural fit. Growing up, I worked in a motorcycle shop and loved working with my hands, using tools, and understanding how things worked. Orthopedics brought that part of my background together with my desire to care for people. I was also drawn to how tangible the results can be—we have the opportunity to relieve pain, restore movement, and help people get back to the lives they love.

What do you like best about practicing medicine? I love seeing people get their lives back. Movement is medicine, and there is something incredibly rewarding about helping someone regain their mobility and return to the people, activities, and experiences that bring them joy. I feel very fortunate to play a part in that process.

What inspires you most about your patients? Their resilience. I’m continually impressed by the strength and optimism people can show in the face of pain and difficult circumstances. My patients remind me how much perseverance people are capable of and how they can continue to find joy even during challenging parts of their journey.

If there is one piece of advice you wish your patients would take to heart, what would it be? There is always reason for hope. Pain and limitations don’t have to define your life, and age is just a number. With perseverance, a positive outlook, and a willingness to keep moving forward, we are often capable of far more than we realize.
