(BETTENDORF, Iowa – May 19, 2026)
ORA Orthopedics is proud to announce the addition of the Planmed XFI Cone-beam CT Scanner, an advanced imaging system that delivers highly detailed, three-dimensional images while allowing patients to be scanned in a natural, weight-bearing position.
ORA is the first healthcare provider in the United States to offer this innovative FDA approved technology, further strengthening its commitment to providing cutting-edge orthopedic care to patients across the Quad Cities region.
Unlike traditional CT scanners that capture images while patients are lying down, the Planmed XFI enables imaging in both standing, weight-bearing and seated positions, marking a major advancement in orthopedic imaging. The system is especially relevant for evaluating joint spaces, spinal alignment and biomechanical function, and is adept at detecting subtle misalignments and fractures.
“As the first practice in the country to offer this technology, we are excited to bring a new level of orthopedic imaging to our community,” said Dr. Andrew Bries, ORA Medical Director. “What sets this scanner apart is its ability to capture highly detailed, 3D images while the patient is in a natural, weight-bearing position, giving us a more complete understanding of how joints function so we can diagnose more confidently and plan more precise care.”
The Planmed XFI CT scanner provides high-resolution, 3D imaging with advanced cone beam CT technology, allowing for exceptional visualization of bones and joint structures. Its ability to capture detailed images of large anatomical areas, including both lower extremities in a single scan, helps improve efficiency and streamline the diagnostic process.
In addition to improved imaging capabilities, the system is designed with patient safety in mind. The scanner utilizes low-dose imaging protocols to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining excellent image quality.
“For foot and ankle care, this scanner is a game changer,” said, Dr. Michael Pyevich, ORA Foot and Ankle Surgeon. “Being able to evaluate patients in a weight-bearing position gives us insight we simply have not had before. We can better assess alignment, instability, and joint mechanics in real time, which leads to more targeted treatment plans and a clearer path forward for our patients.”
The addition of this technology supports a wide range of orthopedic applications, including evaluation of fractures, deformities, arthritis, joint instability, and pre- and post-surgical planning.
The Planmed XFI CT scanner is now available at ORA’s Bettendorf location.
