Trigger finger, known medically as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a condition in which a finger or thumb becomes stuck in a bent position. When attempting to straighten the bent finger, the finger may abruptly snap straight, or in severe cases, it may become locked in the bent position. This condition is caused by inflammation in the tendon sheath of the affected finger. Women, diabetics, and individuals whose hobbies or jobs involve frequent gripping motions are at a greater risk of developing trigger finger. Our team of doctors, nurses and therapists at our Hand and Wrist Center of Excellence offers the greatest choices in care.  We can address complex hand conditions with treatments ranging from specialized occupational hand rehabilitation to innovative hand surgery.

At ORA Orthopedics in the Quad Cities, our approach to trigger finger treatment focuses on restoring the natural, easy movement of the affected tendon. Conservative treatment options may include a regimen of gentle stretching exercises, wearing a special splint at night, steroid injection and percutaneous release – a minimally invasive procedure to clear the inflamed tissue around the tendon. In the event that hand surgery is necessary, our patients can rest assured that our team includes highly experienced fellowship-trained hand surgeons who practice the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques.
